Montmeyan is a medieval fortified village, built at 504 meters above sea level on a rocky promontory in the middle of the plain, near the Gorges du Verdon.

The towers of the ramparts continue to overlook a charming village with narrow, narrow streets, arched passageways, stairway crossings and retaining arches.

The area of the municipality is 3,943 hectares. It has 550 permanent inhabitants.

Montmeyan, a village in the heart of the Gorges du Verdon

Montmeyan is a village in the Verdon, overlooking the Gorges du Verdon from a promontory 500m high. Site inhabited since prehistoric times, Montmeyan has preserved a medieval and fortified architecture and houses the Castelar Tower, a vestige of castrum perched on a rock. The narrow, narrow streets are reminiscent of the village's historic past. They make today a pleasant and picturesque place to visit during your holidays in the Verdon.

The medieval village is located on the lower part of the gorges, near Quinson, Régusse and Taverns. It is equidistant from Lake Esparron and Lake St. Croix. The nearest is Montmeyan Lake Quinson with the entrance of the Bass Gorges du Verdon. The Templars have for a time ruled over Montmeyan, the tower of Castel is also a remnant of this time.

Explanatory signs inform you through the village about the monuments and their history, like the parish church Notre-Dame which dates from the Romanesque period. Every two years, Montmeyan hosts a multidisciplinary cultural festival, Poévie.

The Montmeyan market and the animations
