Fauna & Flora in the Gorges du Verdon - Part 1

It's not a secret : the Gorges du Verdon site is exceptional. More preserved than the upper Gorges, the Bass Gorges du Verdon are the natural theater of fauna and flora of rare diversity.

Wild animals in nature in the reliefs

On the edge and under water: the aquatic world of Verdon

During your boat trip on the Gorges du Verdon with Location Nautic, familiarize yourself with the rich aquatic fauna of the site. First of all the fishermen's birds. On the lookout for fish, the gray heron spreads its long neck to dominate the entire river.
More discreet but equally fond of fish, the kingfisher is easily seen. Its blue, white and red plumage stands out above the water. Its presence is a reliable natural indicator of the good quality of the water in the aquatic environment it inhabits.
Along the water you will also see ducks and ygnes nesting in the Bass Gorges.
Underwater, the ecosystem is also provided by the presence of freshwater fish such as brown trout, perch, pike, pikeperch, roach and bleak especially.
At the edge of the water, you will certainly have the opportunity to see nutria join the underwater entrance of their burrows.
